Why Me? Why Now?

Pastor Justin Krupsky   -
Have you ever found yourself asking, “Why me? Why now?” What does this question have to do with Easter? As we are heading into Easter soon, I can’t help but think about Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane asking God the Father, “My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as you I will, but as You will.” (Matthew 26:39). Galatians 4:4 says, “In the fullness of time, God sent His Son.” At just the right time, Easter happened.
Why at that time? History tells us that because of the Greek influence, there was a common language that could reach the entire world as they knew it. History tells us that because of the Roman roads, there were highways that could get you to the far reaches of the earth. History tells us that there was religious hunger and that spirituality was a longing for the vast majority of the world because of the Greek and Roman cults and Judaism at that time. God’s Word, the Bible, simply sets the stage with God remaining silent for a period of around 400 years after promising for over 4000 years that He would come to once and for all redeem mankind.
Why Jesus? Why God in the flesh? Scripture tells us that God becoming flesh showed us His glory, which is His truth and grace. Scripture tells us that mankind is incapable of making things right with God, but that God is capable of making things right with us. This was the only way. Jesus had to become one of us. He had to suffer so that mankind could have peace.
Why me, why now? I don’t know what the circumstances of your life are like, but I can’t help but hear Jesus saying to each of us: “Now is the time for faith. Now is the time to remember your baptism, to remember the Gospel, to remember Me. Now is the time to remember that I came to save you from your sin. It was Me that left heaven to come to earth. It was Me that died on the cross. It was Me that rose from the dead. It was Me that reached out to you, loved you first, and gave you faith. It was Me that overcame the world so that you could have peace. It is Me that will never leave you nor forsake you. It is Me that understands. It is Me that will welcome you into heaven. Now is the time I have chosen you to be a disciple who goes, shares, and loves.”
Fellow disciples of Jesus, may God give you peace this Easter and may He cause you to give peace to all. We have a Savior, and His name is Jesus.
