Week 5: Revealing

Day 6: I Am the Door

By Bruce Volkert

READ:

John 10:9 I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture.

I like going outdoors!  It is much safer than going out windows.  As far as I know, Jesus did not share a lot of puns with those who followed him.  Well, at least it is not recorded in the New Testament.  However, He did speak often in parables.  Parables are anecdotes; earthly stories with Heavenly meanings.  Jesus is a master teacher.  He used these stories to help us to understand rather complex messages he wanted to convey.

Take a moment to read the first half of John chapter 10.  Jesus refers to Himself as the Good Shepherd and we as the sheep.  In this parable he says “I am the door; whoever enters through Me will be saved.”  Jesus IS our way to the Father.  He IS the way to receive love and forgiveness.  We read in Acts 4, “Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”  Jesus came to earth to be Our Good Shepherd.  He offers salvation to us as a free gift.  “Behold, I stand at the door and knock.  If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with Me”.

PRAY:

Jesus, give us the faith to open the door, to know You, believe, and follow where You lead.  Forgive us when we keep the door closed or ignore You knocking.  Refocus our ears on what You reveal when You speak. Amen.

LIVE:

Which parable do you connect with most right now, Jesus being a shepherd, door, or the way?  What about that imagery helps you understand Jesus in a different way?
