A Mother’s Day Prayer

A Mother’s Day Prayer

By Janis Buelow (Christian Growth Associate)

This past week was Mother’s Day, and while I may not be a mom, I know because of my own mom how grateful I am that she raised me into the strong, independent, God-fearing woman that I am.

As a second generation immigrant, her fight to leave poverty, attend secondary education, and pay off her debt has struck me as one of the strongest things I have ever personally experienced to see someone win against – especially against the statistical odds when she completed her goals.

She raised me with that background – one that fights for what I know is right and that I can achieve. That moralistic ideal has also highly affected my faith and how I know that God is always strengthening me and fighting for me, even when I (a sinner) may not deserve it.

So, knowing how important this holiday is to moms everywhere, I wanted to pray for all of you – including those who maybe want to be a mom and can’t or who are a mom even if your child is no longer with you:

Dear Heavenly Father,

For women everywhere, I thank you. I thank you for their stories, their strengths, and I especially thank you for moms everywhere. Mother’s Day is such a special holiday because they sacrifice so much for their children every single day. Thank you for their fight – for the women who have the want to be moms and at this moment and circumstance are unable, that they would be comforted and uplifted in you and through the will of those around them, for the moms who no longer have their children with them, that they would also be comforted, strengthened, and understood of how much the people around them love them, for the unknown moms, the ones who raised those who don’t remember them and passed life to their children, that they can be remembered and their history passed down throughout generations, and finally for active moms, those who constantly love, strengthen, uplift, comfort, and are there for their children. Strengthen the spirit of these women and help them to remember your love and for the thanksgiving that is the gift you give of moms everywhere.

Amen
