It Is Well

When peace like a river attendeth my way

When sorrows like sea billows roll

Whatever my lot, Thou hast taught me to say

It is well, it is well with my soul.”

There are so many moments where the river thunders through our lives. It feels like the storm is constantly rolling, and we feel like we are unable to keep ourselves afloat. 

This constant, busy energy makes it really hard to connect with ourselves, with each other, and especially with God. Our lives become a task list, a train constantly roaring to the next station without really envisioning “Sabbath” as God asks us to.

As a woman of God, it begs the question of how on earth we are supposed to be at rest in our lives and fully enveloping ourselves in connection with other women. Here at Trinity, we knew that this battle plagues our community of women, including those of us on staff.

That is what we decided to start our new blog section called, “The Well,” to empower women in a restful and refreshing experience the same way that Christ called the Samaritan woman in John 4:13-14.

“Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water that I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become a spring of water welling up to eternal life,” Christ says.

As I think of my life, a young woman who is just starting this amazing new journey of adulthood, I can relate to the struggles of us busy women. Recently I will admit that a medical bill from a recent auto-accident that I thought was taken care of sent me spiraling into a bundle of tears, with thoughts of the unknown plaguing my mind. Shortly after, as soon as I received notice that the bill had, in fact, already been taken care of by insurance, I definitely felt God using that moment to remind me that He is always going to be there for me, taking care of me and the problems that plague my life even when I may not realize how He is working behind the scenes. 

This week reminded me of the song “It is Well,” and specifically the lyric that says God has taught me to say “it is well” even in the midst of all trials and tribulations. Even in the midst of a bad medical bill coming to my house. 

Let God remind us through everything we deal with that He is with us and will always help our souls be well in Him. 

 

Dear God, Thank you for working through the tough times in my life. Bring me rest and peace throughout the struggles ahead. Amen.
