Week 7: Redeeming

Day 2: Just Imagine

By Paula Myers

READ:

John 13:34-35 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.

Imagine being in the upper room with Jesus celebrating the Passover. Despite the chaos ensuing outside in the city, you are with your closest friends and Jesus. After the meal, Jesus stands up and you are watching Him as He walks across the room, pours water into a basin, and begins to wash the disciples feet. It does not say specifically that Jesus knelt to perform this selfless act, but it would have been difficult without kneeling. Just imagine sitting as Jesus kneels, takes your foot in His hand and begins to wash your feet while looking into your eyes.

You later listen as Jesus gives you a new commandment to love one another. Reread the verses above. We are to love one another just as Jesus loves us. We are His witnesses to the world. What an inspiration. We are the vessel for others to see and feel the love of Jesus. What better way for others to see and feel our Savior’s love than to serve. We may not have the opportunity to kneel and wash someone’s feet, but there are plenty of opportunities to love and serve others. So, let us change the world, let’s show them Jesus.

PRAY:

Spirit, inspire us to believe.  Inspire us to follow, to love deeply and sacrificially. Grant us the grace we need to daily be made new, to move forward in the life and love we receive through faith.   Stir our souls to serve each other and the other people not yet a part of Your family.  Amen.

LIVE:

Washing feet is gross and a bit awkward, but it serves a purpose: clean feet.  Jesus did it to demonstrate something special and potent to those closest to Him. Most of the things our neighbors need are somewhat simple.  Is there someone you know whose need you can meet, even if it might be a little unconventional?
