Week 1: [RE]FOCUS

Day 2: Miracles that Restore

By Katie Lindhurst

READ:

Jesus performed many miracles throughout His ministry here on earth.   Turning water into wine, walking on water, feeding 5,000 men, raising people from the dead, healing the blind, sick and possessed are just some of the miracles that are recorded for us in the Bible.

Why does the Bible tell us of these miracles?  John 20:30-31 tells us that Jesus did many more than just these miracles, but they are “written so that you may believe and have life in His name.” Exodus (6:1-8; 9:16; 14:31) shows us that the purpose of miracles is to show the might of God, His love and concern for us, His power, to show He is there for us and for us to trust Him.

Miracles help to create or build faith in those observing the miracle.  Mary had faith that Jesus could supply wine, that’s why she asked Him to help.   Imagine the faith that was restored in the witnesses of all the miracles mentioned in just the New Testament alone!  Sometimes it was just the disciples who witnessed a miracle.  At other times it was thousands of people that were witnesses!  Faith was ignited or restored in each of these witnesses.  May your faith be restored in God and what He has done for you!  By God’s power, refocus on Him.

PRAY:

Jesus, thank you for showing signs that pointed to so much more: displays of love, grace, and power.  Keep working those some gifts in me to grow in following you, and to bring others along with me. Amen.

How does believing in something unlikely like Jesus’ miracles challenge your faith?  How does it encourage your faith?
