Missions Update
September 2010

Mission Trip To Brazil: Due to a series of challenges, our medical mission trip to Brazil has been canceled for 2010.  Please pray for the Terena Indians and our missionary in Brazil, Rev. Paulino Ratund and his wife Isabel, as they deal with this disapointment and ask that God continue to direct us and reveal His will.

For pictures of our November 2009 trip, see the photo show above.

Collections: If you have eyeglasses that you no longer need, they can be donated for use on one of our medical teams.  Please place them in the box outside the Mission’s office.

Kenya: Rev. Carlos Walter Winterle, former president of Lutheran Church of Brazil (IELB) and a good friend of Trinity, is currently a missionary in Nairobi, Kenya.  He is serving under a partnership between IELB and LCMS.  You can read his Blog here

Haiti Mission Trips:

Several opportunities for service in Haiti will be available over the next year.  The first scheduled trip will be with Faith, Troy.  They are organizing a medical team to serve in the Jacmel area October 2-9, 2010.  Our own Dr. Kim Getzinger is planning to join that team.

NEW! We realize this is short notice, but there is another trip to Haiti scheduled for October 9-16, 2010.  This is a construction team that will be working on repairs to the earthquake damaged orphanage in Lilavois.  The trip is sponsored by Martin Luther Chapel in East Lansing, in partnership with Immanuel, St. Clair.  Team leader, Rich Bearup, estimates the cost at around $1000.  Rich would like to finalize the team by September 3.

The next trip will be with Immanuel, St. Clair.  They are scheduled to send a medical team to the Port Au Prince area February 16-25, 2011.

Our own youth/young adults are planning a trip May 21-28, 2011.  They are hoping to do some construction work and possibly assist with medical care.

If you are interested in any of these trips, please contact the Missions office.

Early Report and Pictures from Haiti

Those of you who have been to Haiti may have met Pastor Doris Jean Louis, who was pastor of a large Lutheran church in Port Au Prince until his death on March 12, 2010.  Here is some information that he posted shortly after the earthquake:
